Great post!!

“i would also like to write about Plath one day, but what else could i add to the conversation? “

You’re so right about the uniqueness of voice: might I also build on that to say that even without that voice developed, you DO have something to add. To me that’s one of the most beautiful parts about art: we each have our own special unique relationship with a given piece of art, you know?? I truly believe there’s something between a piece of art and each person that is different and unique… based on how the inner life of the person interplays with the art… and I think tapping into that can be so powerful 🦋

totally!! like just yesterday i read an amazing essay by someone on here about the subject i’m currently writing about and for a second i was like oh shit guess i can’t write about this anymore! then was like wait i just wrote about this exact situation lmao. i totally agree, everyone comes at art from different angles and there’s always room to write about it from different perspectives. gotta keep tellin myself that haha

I read this at work and have been mulling it over in my mind since. First off, write about Clarice! We need more variety surrounding conversations on Clarice. I started learning Portuguese so I can hopefully one day read her work without a translator. But my goodness the part about writing things no one is interested in just HIT me! That’s EXACTLY how I feel! It’s almost tormenting. Such a great piece! I’m so glad I found it. :)

ah this means so much! and omg i would LOVE to read clarice in portuguese. i’m so glad that we’ve at least got these new english translations that are more faithful to the original texts. i’ve got about 500 words on my essay on her so far, so it should be coming soon!! so glad this piece resonated with you ♥️

That’s true, I’m glad we have these new translations. Though I wonder if she’s less difficult in Portuguese (I’ve heard she translates best in Spanish but that seems like a given). And I’m SO excited for your Clarice post then!

Hard relate. That feeling of synapses firing can get to the point of overwhelm with me & I think sometimes jealousy & fear are in the mix: why did they get there first & what is left for me to do? But as you say, a lot. We all of us approach a subject in our own unique way & as you remind us it’s so important not to forget that! Thanks for the intro to Elisa Gabbert’s work- the book sounds wonderful - I love books about reading. I’ll look it up.
